Imagine singing like this live onstage and then having to walk offstage, back into the world as a meager mortal and act like a normal human being.

I went to this production in 1985 during my student years at Eastman. I was in NYC doing auditions and went to see Manon Lescaut at the Met. It was my first time in the Met. I'll never forget this aria because when Vasile hit that High B at the end it was like a laser beam, it completely lifted off, in fact, it was probably even better than this performance. I was in the very back row of the Family Circle up in the rafters and that note sounded like it was right in my ears. Incredible!

How very sad, for Lise Davidsen's voice is so much better here, 8 years ago, than yesterday in the last night of the Proms 2023. The vibrato is just beginning to be apparent in this video, but now, sad to say, every note was blighted by a harsh, unpleasant juddering. She needs to take a year off to study with a teacher in the Garcia tradition and get rid of that ugly "spread tone" my wonderful teacher Oda Slobodskaya knew just how to eradicate. If she is to mature to full glory, for she has a fine instrument, she needs to model herself on Flagstad and Nilsson who never forced or became squally and unsteady.

I saw one of these 1980 performances - 5 days after seeing the opening performance of the great Manon Lescaut with Scotto and Domingo. Tatyana Troyanos was scheduled to sing Eboli but cancelled.

Bravissimo..... vigoroso.. Voce che si adatta perfettamente alla parte. Non fa rimpiangere GIIACOMINI il più grande nel ruolo di Liugi. La Scotto grande come sempre. Beautiful

Endlich wieder eine Sängerin mit Stimme.Ich habe sie erst kürlich in der Berliner Staatoper in dieser Rolle gesehen. Grossartig!

Milnes voice is so cavernously large that tenors must have shaken in their boots being cast with them. Or directors must have chosen the cast (tenor) with this in mind. This grand scena is sung wonderfully by both Carlo and Rodrigo di Posa. The tenor has an edge because he is singing a third higher in the duet, but still. At time Milnes voice (without trying) swamps a fabulous tenor with beacoup de squillo.

Fabulous voice, accomplished actress, have been fortunate enough to hear and see her in the seventies several times at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Lucky me !!

Is that Renata Scotto as Elisabetta? And who plays Philip? Not Freni and Ghiaurov.

I just love his dark voice, his noble, dignified and confident manner, his perfect diction. I just can't bring myself to believe how underrated he was.

Lise Davidsen & Saioa Hernandez have totally different repertoire the voices speak for themselves. The next 10 years will be very interesting for these two ladies. Very promising voices indeed. Thank you for posting Arnuald Bourbon Amaral 🙏🙏💙
